Lima is the tale of our shared dream: the vision of a land where all forms of life coexist in harmony. A realm where individuals harmonise with themselves, with others, and with the environment.
Did you know that the founder of Lima was inspired by George Ohsawa, the inventor of Macrobiotics? George believed in the philosophy of Yin and Yang, which is based on one main principle: the harmony between opposing yet complementary elements. He was convinced that this philosophy should be applied to nutrition.

At Lima, we've always regarded nutrition as essential for inner harmony and health. Founded in 1957 by visionaries who deeply believed in the intimate connection between food and well-being, we dared to promote an organic, plant-based diet when it was groundbreaking. We've persistently championed this conviction, offering you plant-based, and certified-organic products, and we're committed to continuing to do so.
We also believe that harmony is deeply personal. Each person must discover their own nutritional balance, considering their body, specific needs (such as a lactose or gluten-free diet), preferences, and lifestyle. Our products are designed to support you on your journey to finding your unique harmony. Interested in learning more about our nutritional principles? Read more.
And, of course, inner harmony cannot be found without being in harmony with the world around you. As in the Yin and Yang philosophy, everything is connected.
We have been promoting a vegan diet and offering 100% vegetarian products since our creation. A plant-based diet is a great way to find nutritional harmony.
For us, living in harmony with others also means respecting and promoting diversity in general. We can learn so much from other cultures, other points of view. At Lima, we explore the world and are always open to other culinary traditions. This enables us to offer you new flavours, new ways of cooking your favourites. We are inspired by Japan, of course, but also by culinary cultures from all over the world.
Lima: a pioneer of organic agriculture. We have been pioneers in the development of organic agriculture. Our founder, Pierre Gevaert, was a visionary: he believed very early in ecology and organic agriculture. Even Lima's Expert laboratory laid the foundations for legislation on organic food in Europe in 1974.
What does “organic” mean? The definition of the word “organic” is actually quite simple: whenever possible, nothing is added and nothing is altered. In concrete terms, this means: no additives, no use of products derived from GMOs (with the exception of veterinary medicines), and no use of chemically synthesized pesticides. Additives and non-organic ingredients are used only minimally—and only when technologically necessary or nutritionally justified. Lima products are organically certified and comply with European organic standards. We respect the French AB Label and the Belgian Biogarantie.
