There are many reasons why Lima’s products are 100% vegetarian. First and foremost, it’s a matter of health - both of people and of the environment. Eating a vegetarian diet not only protects the environment but also ensures a more even distribution of food between the northern and southern hemispheres. Animal welfare is improved too, since they are treated with greater respect.
The world faces severe capacity bottlenecks on a daily basis. In 2016, Earth Overshoot Day fell on 8 August. In barely eight months, man had used up all the renewable sources that the Earth could produce in one year. Since that date, we have been depleting our planet’s natural reserves.
How is this happening? Meat-production in the Western world has increased fivefold since the 1950s. The intensive cattle-breeding this has brought with it is in large part responsible for our planet’s dwindling natural resources.
No less than 20% of our environmental footprint is down to food, with half of that amount attributable to consumption of meat and fish. A vegetarian diet is a major step towards curbing these alarming figures.
