Lima is the story of our common dream: the dream of a land where all forms of life live in harmony. A land where people are in harmony with themselves, with the others and with the environment.

We have been acting to make this dream a reality for more than 60 years. Let us explain you how!

Harmony with yourself

Quality food is a key to inner harmony.

Did you know that the founder of Lima was inspired by George Ohsawa, the inventor of Macrobiotics? Georges believed in the philosophy of Yin and Yang which is based on one main principle: the harmony between opposing yet complementary elements. He was convinced that this philosophy should be applied to nutrition. Read more about our history.

At Lima, we have always considered nutrition as a key to inner harmony and health. Lima was created in 1957 by visionaries who were truly convinced by the intimate link between food and heath. At that time, promoting an organic plant-based diet was pretty daring. But we fought to spread this conviction and to offer you high quality, plant-based and 100% certified-organic products. And we will always keep doing so.

We also believe that harmony is very personal. Everyone has to find one’s own personal nutritional harmony taking into account one’s body, one’s specific needs (lactose or gluten free for example), one’s preferences, one’s way of life... Our products are here to help you find your own way to harmony. Curious about our nutritional principles? Read more.

And of course, inner harmony cannot be found without being in harmony with the world around you. As in the Yin and Yang philosophy, everything is connected.

Harmony with the others

“All forms of life living in harmony”.

Living in harmony with the animals is at the heart of Lima. We have been promoting a vegan diet and offering 100% vegetarian products since our creation. A plant-based diet is a great way to find nutritional harmony while taking care of the planet. Did you know that by eating vegan you can drastically reduce your carbon footprint? (Learn more hereafter in the “Harmony with the environment” section.) A diet based on high quality cereals smartly combined with vegetables, plant-based proteins, fruit and nutrient-dense condiments provides everything your body needs. And it can be also be rich in flavours and sensorial surprises!

For us, living in harmony with all forms of life also means respecting and promoting diversity in general. We can learn so much from other cultures, other point of views. At Lima, we explore the world and are always open to other culinary traditions. It allows us to offer you new flavours, new ways of cooking your favorites. We are inspired by Japan of course but also by culinary cultures from all over the world.

Promoting and respecting diversity enriches our lives and is key to create a better world for everyone.

Harmony with the environment

“Everything is connected.”

Taking care of our planet is essential for Lima. We contribute to make our world a better place at every possible level.

Lima: a pioneer of organic agriculture. We have been a pioneer in the development of organic agriculture. Our founder, Pierre Gevaert was a visionary: he believed very early in ecology and in organic agriculture. Lima Expert laboratory even laid the foundations for legislation on organic food in Europe in 1974.

What is organic? The definition of “organic” is actually very simple: nothing added, nothing excluded, nothing modified. Which concretely means: no additives, no GMO nor pesticides. The Lima products are 100% certified-organic and comply with the European organic regulations. We go even further by respecting the French AB Label and the Belgian Biogarantie. And the spirit of Lima goes beyond legal requirements and labels: our Lima Expert Lab is here to test and guarantee that our products are of the highest quality. Read more about our Expertise..**

Eating vegan: a responsible choice.

Did you know that adopting a vegetarian diet is a good way to limit your own carbon footprint? If everyone was eating vegan at least once a week, it would have a big impact on the planet. Eating vegan means respecting animals but also:

Reducing carbon emissions - farming is responsible for 18% of CO2 emissions, even more than transport! (source FAO)

Saving huge quantities of water - to produce one hamburger you need on average 3000L of water. More than what you need to shower in one month (source Waterfootprint organization).

Preserving biodiversity.

Fighting world hunger.

Helping protect the equatorial forest.

And so much more...

Responsible in everything we do.

We act to be always more in harmony with the environment. We try to minimize our environmental impact each time it is possible, and to always improve ourselves. Our products come to you in always more environmentally-friendly packagings. Find out more on our packagings!.

In 2009, Lima’s headquarter moved into a new carbon neutral building.
